High-pressure reactor-UHVchamber
This apparatus couples an extremely powerful surface analytical UHV chamber, with capabilities for AES, XPS, ISS, LEED, and TPD. Electron and ion spectroscopies are performed using a state-of-the-art Perkin-Elmer Model 10-360 Hemispherical Analyzer (SCA). ISS is carried out using a PHI 5 kV-differentially pumped ion gun. A custom-designed sample transfer rod (maintaining sample heating and cooling) enables travel of the sample from the UHV chamber to an atmospheric pressure reaction cell/pretreatment chamber without air exposure. High pressure reaction rates (for catalytic studies) are measured by a differentially pumped quadrupole mass spectrometer and/or a Hewlett-Packard Model 5890 Series II gas chromatograph.
